U.S. Presidential Gallery in Washington to display Trump portrait

Portraits of former President Donald Trump will be displayed in the American Presidents Gallery when the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery in Washington, D.C., reopens to the public, according to the latest news.

According to the first report of the American media “Washingtonian”, the gallery, which contains portraits of all previous U.S. presidents, will add a portrait of Trump when it reopens.

The gallery’s media director, Concetta Duncan, said the portrait is a new purchase. It could be a painting, a photograph or a work on paper.

She said, “The new collection will be installed on our walls until the museum reopens, at which time visitors will be able to see it by obtaining a free timed admission pass.”

Duncan did not say whether the work had been completed and who was chosen to create this artwork. And the Trump team did not respond to that.

The portrait will not be permanently displayed in the gallery, the museum said. The official portrait of the former president, commissioned by the museum, is still in the early stages of production, and there is no specific timetable for the display to share.

Duncan said, “We’re still in the conversation phase about the officially commissioned portrait.” She added that there will be no unveiling ceremony for the temporary work. But the actual official portrait will have an unveiling ceremony.

Gallery director Kim Sajet told the press that the museum welcomes Trump supporters to visit.

“We are a nonpartisan institution and understand that there is public opinion on both sides of the fence,” Sajet said. “As with all recent official portraits of the president, we cannot speculate on how viewers will perceive those portraits after they are made. Whether the portraits are painted beautifully or not is a different feeling for different people.”
