Microsoft and the U.S. Army signed a contract in 2018 to jointly develop the Integrated Visual Augmented System (IVAS) prototype, and the signing of the contract on March 31 means the IVAS program is entering production.
The U.S. Department of Defense said the contract with Microsoft is expected to provide the U.S. Army Close Combat Force (Close Combat Force) next-generation night vision and status awareness capabilities as soon as possible. The production contract is for five years, with an option to renew, meaning the 10-year contract could be worth “more than $21.88 billion.
Microsoft technical staff Kipman (Alex Kipman) said the helmet is based on the commercial HoloLens headset, which will make the military safer and more effective in combat.
A Microsoft spokesperson revealed that the headset will be manufactured in the United States.
HoloLens headset device costs up to $3,500, users can see the surroundings in the superimposed hologram (hologram), and can rely on hand gestures or voice control interaction.
