The manufacturer is operated by U.S. biopharmaceutical company Emergert BioSolutions, which is also a manufacturing partner for Johnson & Johnson vaccines and AstraZeneca vaccines, according to the report.
The Johnson & Johnson vaccine that had previously been distributed and administered was produced in the Netherlands and was not related to the accident, but tens of millions of doses of Johnson & Johnson vaccine that were expected to be distributed next month will be affected, the report said.
The New York Times said the accident was a “huge embarrassment” for the single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine, which was expected to accelerate the U.S. universal immunization program.
