On March 29, the Qinghai Federation of Literary and Art Circles issued an announcement on its official website that Wang Xiaoli, president of the Qinghai Art Association, had been suspended from her duties for inspection.
On the evening of the 30th, the Chinese Artists Association announced that Wang Xiaoli’s membership in the Chinese Artists Association was suspended.
Wang Xiaoli copied a large number of paintings from others, which was recently exposed on the Internet. An article titled “Exposure of beautiful painter, chairman of the Qinghai Art Association, the youngest member of the Chinese Art Association suspected of plagiarism for several years?” The article revealed that Wang Xiaoli plagiarized the works of Tianjin painter Ma Hansong.
In the article, several paintings of the two were compared together, and their paintings were almost identical except for the inscriptions and tones. Some netizens commented, “This is not plagiarism, it is clearly a copy.”
The article sparked public attention, and on March 26, Red Star News published an apology letter from Wang Xiaoli, who claimed that due to her own vanity and fluke mentality, the plagiarized work flowed to society, causing great harm to Mr. Ma Hansong and apologized.
