Foreign media broke the news: Toyota and Tesla will cooperate to build affordable electric cars

Toyota and tesla, each a leader in the auto industry, have been reported by South Korean media to be in talks to jointly produce affordable electric vehicles.

According to a report from Chosun Ilbo, officials from The Japanese auto industry have revealed that Toyota and Tesla are considering jointly developing a small electric recreational vehicle platform, with Toyota providing the vehicle platform and Tesla providing the on-board electronic control and software technology.

In fact, Toyota and Tesla in 2010, had jointly developed an electric car. Tesla’s current Fremont plant in California was taken over by numi, a joint venture between Toyota and GM Motors, and Toyota had a stake in Tesla.
Despite the poor sales, Tesla CEO Elon Musk and Toyota President Akio Toyoda have been in close contact and have not cut off cooperation opportunities between the two automakers.

At Tesla’s Battery Day last year, Elon Musk announced that he would launch a $25,000 electric car in 2023. If we can cooperate with Toyota and combine our strengths, we may really have a chance to see the arrival of affordable electric cars.
