France’s third wave of the new crown Epidemic has come on fiercely, with the number of seriously ill patients hitting a new high for the year. The head of the Paris Medical Center has warned that hospitals are overwhelmed and will have to start selecting patients for admission. The total number of confirmed cases in France exceeds 4.54 million, surpassing Russia to become the 4th largest country.
The French Ministry of health informed on Sunday night that 81 new serious patients were diagnosed in France, with a total of 4,872 serious cases, which is close to the peak of the second wave of the epidemic in November last year and again the highest this year, with 37,014 new cases confirmed.
AFP reported that people in charge of the Paris Medical Center warned Sunday that Paris area hospitals are already overwhelmed and doctors will have to face a “medical disaster” of “picking and choosing patients” to treat.
Rémi Salomon, president of the Paris Hospital Public Health Committee, said we are outraged that hospitals are in such a state of disaster. In 10 days, 15 days or three weeks, we risk the situation getting out of hand. “We have no choice but to close the city again,” he said. Salomon said, “Now we have reached an urgent moment when all the “brakes” must be applied, including the closure of schools.” He suggested that schools must be closed before the Easter holiday.
Earlier, 41 doctors in the Paris region published a newspaper article in which they also warned that hospitals may have to start choosing which patients to give emergency treatment to. The doctors said the choice of emergency care involves all patients.
The French government announced over the weekend that a large number of vaccines will arrive in France next week, with nearly 3 million doses expected to reach 4 million by the end of April, mainly with Pfizer and Modena vaccines.
Doctors said that vaccination is a means to deal with the new crown epidemic in the medium to long term, but the critical situation France is currently in is still such that vaccination will not be effective in turning the situation around, and the current epidemic prevention measures are not sufficient to quickly control the epidemic.
The French Ministry of Health informed that the total cumulative number of confirmed cases in France exceeded 4.54 million, and France surpassed the data reported by Russia to become the 4th country with the most confirmed cases worldwide.
