Iran signs 25-year cooperation agreement with Chinese Communist Party Local anti-China sentiment runs high

The signing of a 25-year cooperation agreement between Iran and the Communist Party of China (CPC) has raised anti-China sentiment in the region, with “#No2ChinaIRAccord” becoming a popular hashtag.

The official Iranian News Agency (IRNA) quoted Iranian officials as saying on March 27 that the comprehensive cooperation agreement would deepen bilateral ties between Tehran and Beijing in various economic fields and would create $400 billion in annual trade for the entire Middle East region.

Meanwhile, Iranian Twitter users posted pictures of “China out of Iran” and the Persian Gulf surrounded by the Great Wall. Others shouted at “Chinese politicians and people” in Chinese, stressing that “we, the Iranian people, are against any agreement with the Chinese.

There were even heated comments on Twitter in Chinese saying, “Suggest that the Chinese Communist government send coffins to every Chinese sent to Iran… From now on, no Chinese will be safe in Iran.”
