The Biden administration announced sanctions against Burmese businesses.
The Biden Administration announced sanctions against businesses in Burma as the country’s military government forced out the government of former U.S. President Barack Obama, former Secretary of State Hillary and financial magnate Soros-backed Aung San Suu Kyi, U.S. media outlet The National Archives reported Thursday, March 25.
Secretary of State Antony Blinken said, “In response to the military coup, the U.S. is taking further sanctions, with the companies designated for sanctions being Mayenma Economic Corporation and Burma Economic Corporation.”
Without explicit permission from the U.S. government, Americans or U.S. companies will not be able to do business with these Burmese companies.
Hillary had advised Aung San Suu Kyi to run for a parliamentary seat in the 2012 general election in Burma, the report said. Aung San Suu Kyi also received strong support from then-President Barack Obama.
Soros’ Open Society Foundations has been working to undermine the Burmese government since 1994, eventually succeeding with the rise to power of Aung San Suu Kyi.
Recently, the Burmese military government froze Soros’ bank accounts and issued arrest warrants for 11 members of the Open Society Foundations in Burma.
