For the first Time, Taiwan has confirmed that it has long-range missiles with a range of more than 1,000 kilometers that can attack China’s interior. In addition, three long-range attack weapons are being studied. Military sources revealed that the missile in question is Taiwan’s homemade Xiongfeng 2E extended-range cruise missile. Taiwan’s Defense Minister Chiu Kuo-ching pointed out that Taiwan must actively engage in defense reform in the face of the growing Chinese Communist military threat.
Chiu attended the Legislative Yuan’s Foreign Affairs and National Defense Committee on Thursday morning to report on the Quadrennial Defense Review (QDR).
DPP legislator Chiu Tien-lin asked how Taiwan’s homemade long-range strike missiles are progressing, in addition to the missiles currently purchased from the United States, in light of the long-range strike capability mentioned in the QDR report, which can deter the enemy from attacking ports and military facilities before they are ready to attack.
Chiu Kuo-ching said that building the military and having long-range strike weapons is one of the important items, and the Sun Yat-sen Academy of Sciences has never stopped researching and developing in this area.
Chiu Kuo-Cheng said: “I reported to members that long-range strike is one of the key items in our future, whether it is building the military or acquiring weapons. We expect to have long-range, accurate and mobile, whether it is the Academy of Sciences or our procurement of these military products, armaments and equipment weapons, all towards this aspect to do, according to my understanding, the Academy of Sciences on this aspect of research and development have not stopped.
Also present at the meeting, Vice President of the Zhongshan Academy of Sciences Leng Jinxu added that Taiwan has deployed ground-to-ground missiles for long-range strikes. Three other programs are under study.
Leng Jinxu said: long-range strike warfare, there is currently one type of ammunition, in addition to scientific research cases also continue to promote advanced long-range strike cases, there are three cases in the promotion, the report is complete.
The report was completed. The legislator asked Leng Jinsu to clarify whether Taiwan already has a long-range strike weapon and related contents.
Zhao Tianlin asked: Is there one that is already in mass production?

Zhao Tianlin asked: Is this one currently launched from the land or from an aircraft?
Leng Jinxu said: Land-based launch.
Zhao Tianlin asked: Can you disclose the number of kilometers it can cover at the moment?

According to military sources quoted by Taiwan’s “Free Times”, the long-range strike missile mentioned by CAS Vice President Leng Jinxu refers to the land-launched Xiongfeng 2E and the extended-range Xiongfeng 2E surface-to-surface cruise missile. The former has a range of 600 kilometers and has been in military deployment and service for many years, but the military has not yet publicly displayed it, while the latter is an extended-range missile based on the Xiongfeng 2E, with improved performance. In the past, it was rumored that the extended-range Xiongfeng-2E missile had a range of 1,200 kilometers and could penetrate deep into China’s interior. Military sources said that the range can be more than 1,000 kilometers to describe more aptly, as to how much more, it is left to the imagination of all walks of Life.
The Zhongshan Academy of Sciences began developing the Xiongfeng III cruise missile, which has a range of more than 1,000 kilometers, years ago.
The report was presented to the committee by Defense Minister Qiu Guozheng, who pointed out that it was a strategic guidance document that responded to changes in the regional situation and drew up a vision for national defense with forward thinking.
In the face of the growing threat posed by the Chinese Communist Party, the national military must actively engage in key national defense reforms and implement warfare training and preparedness efforts,” said Qiu. In the future, we will build on the existing national defense governance, reform the reserve mobilization system, develop asymmetric warfare, and strengthen joint warfare capabilities and effectively respond to non-traditional threats, so as to build an elite force capable of winning future wars and ensuring national security.
In the report, when it comes to military objectives, Qiu Guozheng said that the development of air-launched missiles that can significantly increase range, as well as long-range remote attack weapon systems, to carry out precise strikes against the enemy, extend the depth of strategic operations, and establish a heavy layer of deterrent force.
The ROC military’s missile force refers to the Air Force Artillery and Missile Command, which was upgraded from the Air Force Air Defense Missile Command and Air Force Air Defense Artillery Command on Sept. 1, 2017, to the Air Force Air Defense and Missile Command.
The missile command has five missile brigades, mainly using Patriot and Skybow air defense missiles, and deploying an unknown number of special missiles, namely the Xiongfeng 2E cruise missile.
