The Biden administration has recently launched an “anti-hate on Asians” campaign, and some Chinese Americans have responded positively. But the political motive behind this matter has raised questions. A few days ago, it was rumored on the Internet that at an “anti-hate Asian” rally in New York, some Chinese people shouted slogans such as “Down with the American Empire” and “Long live Chairman Mao”, and the related video went viral.
On March 23, a video circulated on Twitter showed that some Chinese people suddenly shouted anti-American slogans at a “Stop Asia Hate” rally in the streets of the United States.
The video shows a group of Asians holding English placards such as “Stop Asia Hate” in a street full of Chinese signs, with police on guard. Suddenly, behind the crowd, a man in red with a bicycle stands next to a police car and starts chanting slogans: “Down with U.S. imperialism” and “Long live Chairman Mao. Others in the crowd raised their hands and cheered.
Many tweeters accused the slogan shouters of their pro-Chinese Communist Party stance. However, some netizens thought that the anti-communists might have intended to spoof the rally to ridicule the Chinese participants. Users have speculated that there may be a Chinese Communist element behind the “anti-Asian hate” campaign, and have called on the FBI to send some of the pro-communist participants back to China.
The video does not show the Time or location. But several tweeters said the incident took place in Brooklyn’s Chinatown.
According to public reports, “anti-Asian hate” marches and rallies were held in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Flushing and other boroughs in New York City on the afternoon of the 21st.
Last week’s shooting in Atlanta included six Asians among the eight people killed at a local massage parlor. The Biden Administration then began calling for “anti-Asian hate”. FBI Director Christopher Wray also told the U.S. media that the killer did not appear to be racially motivated.
Meanwhile, the U.S. mainstream media began to report intensively on incidents of hatred and even attacks against Asians. However, these reports mainly focus on “white people hating Asians”, while the vicious attacks by African-Americans on Asians seem to be mostly ignored.
On social media, some Chinese speculate that the leftists are launching this campaign to bring in Asians. Others believe that the authorities are creating and exploiting “political correctness” to unsettle the Communist Party’s export of the Epidemic.
In other parts of the U.S., some ethnic Chinese are also involved in the campaign. Among the participants, there are those who want to improve the situation for the Chinese, but there are also those who are questioned to be manipulated by the Chinese Communist Party. Some netizens reported that some CCP members in the U.S. called around to persuade Chinese to participate in the “anti-Asian hate” marches and rallies.
