Big surprise! Blue State Colorado is the most gun-controlled state in the U.S. Very much in line with Democrats’ gun control aspirations

The Breitbart News reported this week that Colorado has universal background checks for gun control and is one of the few states in the U.S. that is very much in line with the wishes of Democrats.

The gun control group led by former Democratic U.S. Rep. Gabby Giffords described Colorado’s gun control background checks as “universal background checks,” with private gun sales requiring the same background checks as gun sales by retailers. In addition, gun dealers “can charge up to $10 for a background check” for private sales of firearms.

Colorado passed universal background checks just months after the 2013 Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting.

The Denver Post reported on March 19, 2013, that then-Governor John Hickenlooper signed a bill requiring background checks for private and online gun sales and banning the sale of magazines with more than 15 rounds of ammunition.

According to Reuters, days before the bill was signed, Colorado Republican House Minority Leader Mark Waller (D) warned, “If it’s about enhancing public safety, this bill won’t serve its purpose. If someone wants to commit a crime, they can still get a gun.”

That’s true, and despite Colorado’s universal background checks for gun control, suspect Ahmad Alissa, 21, of Arvada, Colorado, got his hands on a gun and opened fire on a customer at the King Soopers supermarket chain in Boulder this past Monday. The suspect was charged with ten counts of first-degree murder.

Similarly, California has universal background checks, yet the South Los Angeles area has seen a 742 percent spike in shooting victims in just the first 16 days of 2021.

Giffords’ gun control group claims, “Universal background checks are critical to closing the deadly loopholes in the law that allow millions of guns to end up in the hands of individuals at higher risk of committing violence each year.”
