China’s fishing boat crosses border, Taiwan detains 13 people

On March 23, Taiwan‘s Keelung Marine Patrol intercepted a mainland fishing boat that crossed the border in the waters of Pangka Island and arrested 13 people on board.

The Chinese Communist Party‘s military planes frequently intrude into Taiwan’s airspace, while mainland fishing boats also frequently intrude into Taiwan’s waters. 23 March, Taiwan authorities intercepted a mainland fishing boat that crossed the border in the waters of Pangka Island and arrested 13 people on board.

According to the Central News Agency, on March 23, a mainland fishing boat, whose name was painted over, crossed the border into the waters of Pangka Island to fish and was investigated by the Keelung Coast Guard.

Keelung Coast Guard 24 said that at 8:00 a.m. on the 23rd, it received a notification that a mainland fishing boat was suspected to have crossed the border at 14 miles northeast of Pengjiayu, and immediately dispatched PP-10033 sea patrol boat to the scene.

At 1:00 p.m. on the same day, a mainland fishing boat with its name painted on the northeast of Pangka Island was found to be trawling in violation of the law, and then the whole process was recorded and searched for evidence.

The Coast Guard requested the fishing vessel to stop and be inspected through the radio, but the captain refused to cooperate and accelerated to escape, and was intercepted by the Coast Guard forcefully.

The Coast Guard boarded the vessel for inspection and seized 2,000 kg of fish and arrested 13 crew members. At about 9:00 p.m. that night, the Coast Guard escorted the mainland fishing vessel back to Zhengbin Fishing Port for investigation and detention.

According to the investigation of the Coast Guard, the mainland fishing boat named “Min Jin Fishing 05369”, left the port of Shenhu, Jinjiang City, Fujian Province on the 19th and crossed the border into the waters of Pangka Island in the early hours of the 23rd to fish.

The 2,000 kilograms of fish caught by the fishing vessel were thrown back into the sea, and the Taiwanese authorities confiscated the fishing nets, fishing gear and netting machine of the fishing vessel and imposed administrative penalties in accordance with the law.

On November 20, 2020, a fishing vessel of Fujian nationality went out 36 nautical miles off Taichung harbor, and the Taichung Coast Guard intercepted and boarded the vessel for inspection.

On November 5, Taiwan’s Matsu Coast Guard intercepted a mainland fishing boat that had crossed the border and arrested four people.

At present, the atmosphere in the Taiwan Strait is tense, as the Chinese Communist Party frequently sends military aircraft to intrude into Taiwan’s airspace to provoke, and the Taiwan authorities are also strengthening their defense of Taiwan’s waters.

In addition, the Chinese Communist Party has equipped many civilian vessels with attack weapons, turning them into Communist Party militia ships, posing a threat to neighboring countries in the South China Sea and East China Sea.

The Philippine government issued a statement on March 20, stating that about 220 armed Chinese Communist fishing boats were confirmed on March 7 to be assembled in the waters around Whi (Whitsun Reef), an ox-yoke reef belonging to Philippine territory.

Philippine Defense Secretary Lorenzana said the Chinese side’s move was a military provocation. He called on the Chinese Communist Party to stop this intrusion and immediately recall these vessels that violate the maritime rights and sovereign territory of the Philippines.
