You and me! Several EU countries and the Chinese Communist Party summon each other’s ambassadors

Several European Union countries summoned the Chinese ambassador today to protest the retaliatory sanctions against 10 members of the European Union Parliament and member states. In addition to France, Belgium, Denmark, Germany and other countries summoned their Chinese ambassadors. The Chinese Communist Party has also summoned diplomatic envoys from several countries to protest against Western sanctions over human rights issues related to the Uighur minority in Xinjiang.

According to the AFP news agency, German Deputy Foreign Minister Berg summoned Chinese Ambassador Wu Suo to Berlin today for an urgent conversation.

Germany is unhappy with China’s retaliation against the EU sanctions, listing 10 EU and multinational parliamentarians, along with the European Parliament’s human rights body B and research institutions within the EU to impose sanctions.

According to AFP, German diplomatic officials criticized the Chinese sanctions as meaningless for China’s relations with the EU.

Germany urged China to immediately lift the retaliatory sanctions, which are widely opposed by the EU.

Following the sanctions against the EU, Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Qin Gang today summoned the British ambassador to China, Wu Ruolan, to denounce the sanctions against Chinese officials for human rights issues in Xinjiang, according to the Central News Agency. He added that China “will make the necessary and justified response to the wrongdoing of the British side”.

Qin Gang summoned Nicolas Chapuis, head of the EU delegation to China, late last night to protest and strongly condemn the sanctions and to inform China about countermeasures.
