Former President Trump speaks at CPAC on Feb. 28, 2021.
In an interview Monday morning (March 22), former President Donald Trump again denounced the U.S. media landscape, saying the country no longer has a “free press. And he will soon launch a brand new social media platform.
In an interview on “Lisa Boothe’s podcast” Monday morning, Trump said the current border crisis was an example of the lack of proper media coverage. “This is not freedom of the press,” he said. “This press, which we have to be very, very smart to get around, doesn’t report bad news. They don’t report any news that happens to be bad for Democrats. It’s amazing. You can look at what’s going on at the border, some of the crazy stuff that’s going on, and look at the media coverage and see that it’s completely disproportionate.”
The former U.S. commander-in-chief added, “If you look at NBC, ABC, CBS, and of course CNN and MSNBC, and if you look at some of these networks, they just don’t report the news. It’s very little coverage. It’s so strange. It’s a huge event because it’s going to destroy our country.”
Throughout Trump’s presidency, he has denounced the “fake news” media, saying they have falsely reported on many things. At the same Time, Trump has repeatedly criticized MSNBC, The New York Times and CNN, saying that these media outlets are essentially the wings of the Democratic Party.
This weekend, John Moore, a longtime photojournalist for Getty Image, called on the Biden administration to allow media crews to observe U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents at work as large numbers of illegal immigrants arrive at the southern border.
“I sincerely ask U.S. Customs and Border Protection to stop blocking media access to its border operations,” Moore tweeted Friday. “I have photographed CBP under Bush, Obama and Trump, but now, the media has zero access. These long shot images are being taken from the Mexican side.”
In another Twitter comment, Moore added: “There is no precedent in recent times where authorities have completely banned media access to CBP to observe border operations.” “For those who might say that, it will reduce their slack and allow them to handle (the crisis) better. And I would say that we should show America the current response to the influx of immigrants, and that’s exactly the role the media (should play).”
Recent polls have shown that Americans largely distrust the mass media. A Gallup poll released last year showed that only 9 percent of Americans have “a great deal” of trust in the media, while 31 percent have only a “fair amount” of trust in the media. amount of trust. Meanwhile, the survey shows that 33 percent of people have “no trust” in the media, while 27 percent have “little” trust in the media. In other related polls, many Americans blame the mass media for exacerbating the political divide in the United States.
Trump to announce later whether he will participate in 2024 presidential election
When asked by the moderator whether he would run in the 2024 presidential election, Trump said there are a lot of “very good people” in the Republican Party who will compete in the upcoming election, such as Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R), South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem (R), Senator Josh Hawley (D), and Senator John Kerry (D). Senator Hawley (Josh Hawley), Senator Cruz (Ted Cruz) and Senator Paul (Rand Paul) are all good candidates.
Trump later said that 97 percent of respondents to a brief survey by the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) said they supported his running for president again. In his CPAC speech on Feb. 28, Trump humorously said he was weighing his options to see if he planned to “beat them [Democrats] a third time.
Trump to launch new social media platform soon
I’m doing what I’m doing to get our own (social media) platform out there,” Trump told Bout. You’re going to hear (the news) soon.” Trump’s adviser Jason Miller said in a separate interview over the weekend that the former president will launch his own platform “probably within two or three months.
“I think it’s going to be the hottest ticket on social media,” Miller told Fox News on Sunday (March 21). “It’s going to completely redefine the game and everyone will be watching to see exactly what President Trump is doing.”
After Twitter, Facebook and other major tech sites blocked him, Trump relied on emails and his adviser Miller to release a statement to the public.
“You see us releasing statements from former presidents,” Trump said in the interview, “and that kind of messaging is being embraced by everyone.” He also said the new method of messaging is “much more elegant” than tweeting.
Trump added, “I think it’s great. I’ve only been doing this for the last three or four weeks. But the outward sound bite …… I think that maybe in some way …… might be as big as it’s ever been.”
