On March 18, Governor Andrew Cuomo announced updated vaccination program guidelines and a series of reopened regulations for the 12 million residents of New York State who are now eligible for vaccinations.
With more than 2,600 pharmacies in New York State, including CVS, Walgreens and Rite Aid, making an appointment with the nearest pharmacy will be the easiest way for many New Yorkers to get vaccinated.
★Walgreens
Walgreens accepts appointments online and by phone (1-800-925-4733), and the company says that some pharmacies now offer vaccinations, but new locations will be added on an ongoing basis.
Walgreens offers the FDA-approved Pfizer and Moderna vaccines. Johnson & Johnson vaccines became available in March.
★CVS Pharmacy
CVS Pharmacy accepts online appointments. The company currently offers three FDA-approved vaccines, Pfizer, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson. The public can check which vaccines are available at a particular pharmacy before scheduling an appointment.
★ Rite Aid
Rite Aid only accepts online vaccination appointments and has established two vaccination ports, one for New York State and the other for New York City. rite Aid emphasizes that appointments cannot be made by calling local pharmacies.
Rite Aid offers both Pfizer and Modena vaccines, only one of which is available at each pharmacy, and people who receive the vaccine cannot choose for themselves.
