The two-day U.S.-China talks in Alaska finally ended, in addition to the talks as usual, “a moment of each table”, it is interesting that the two countries are almost poles apart in terms of the two sides’ victory and defeat, and even more interesting is the blame game, the U.S. side accused Yang’s speech listed all the contents, the most reluctant to face the U.S. side of that A few words that neither the presenters nor the media listed. Why did a meeting and its aftermath fall into such a divisive state? The reasons for this are worth analyzing.
A meeting in which both sides feel “victorious”
The U.S. side, apart from accusing the Chinese side of lacking diplomatic decorum, believes it has achieved its goal. Secretary of State John Blinken said the U.S. side had achieved two objectives in holding the meeting. “First, we wanted to tell them of our serious concerns about the range of actions that China has taken and demonstrated, and that our allies and partners share those concerns. We did that. We also wanted to clearly articulate our own policies, priorities and worldview. And we have done that.” For his part, National Security Adviser Sullivan said, “We came in sober and we left sober.”
The U.S. has spoken publicly many times about issues such as Xinjiang and Hong Kong–Taiwan, as well as the U.S. position against China’s treatment of its Western allies. The U.S. has made the purpose of the talks known to China through diplomatic talks, except that the U.S. believes that China does not read any official U.S. statements at all, and that the only way to be considered “dedicated to this Budda” is to tell it in person. Sullivan’s words were, quite rightly, useless.
The United States does not represent world opinion” and “the Chinese do not eat this”, as if China was again facing the threat of the Eight-Power Allied Forces. According to the major foreign media, these words, with 2.45 billion reads and 1.16 million discussions on Sina Weibo and concentrated coverage in the global media, at least indicate that the high-level 2+2 talks between the U.S. and China being held in Alaska have definitively “entered” the center of public opinion. The pride that “you can’t have an international conversation without China” is overwhelming.
Opponents of both countries believe that the government they oppose is the loser
Most of China’s political opponents in the U.S. believe that the Chinese side was greatly humiliated by the U.S. side, and of course repeated the point that the U.S. side and the U.S. media criticized the Chinese side for its lack of diplomatic decorum. They even see the U.S. side’s failure to even set up a dinner as an act of extreme contempt for the Chinese side. And of course, it also repeated the U.S. accusation that Chinese officials are “grandstanding” and deliberately creating “theatrical effects” just to show the people at Home.
The Geller Report published “Biden is weak, U.S. humiliated at Alaska talks” on March 19, citing the discontent expressed by a number of people, such as Zhang Jiadun, who said the U.S. could tolerate the arrogant attitude of the Chinese side, which came to give orders, and others who accused the current U.S. administration of being spineless, and others who sorrowfully concluded that the U.S. “has an external threat like China. There are external threats like China, but at home, critical race theory and identity politics have left us fractured and self-loathing. The Chinese Communist Party knows this. That’s why they used ‘black lives matter’ as a talking point in Alaska. So just as important as using power against China, Republican officials and anyone who will listen must do what they can to end anti-American indoctrination at home.” The article also quotes former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo‘s comments on Twitter about the Alaska talks, “Power deters bad guys. Weakness leads to war.”
But the words that really humiliated the U.S. outfit and made them respond were not mentioned by either the U.S. or China, and were consciously avoided by the media. To date, neither side has published a full translation of the video, with only one Hong Kong-based FX68 Finance taking the Time to translate it and post it in full.
What were the words intentionally withheld by both sides?
Two statements in Yang Jiechi’s severely overstretched speech.
“The United States has an American-style democracy and China has a Chinese-style democracy. The work that the United States has done in advancing democracy in this country should be evaluated not only by the American people, but also by people around the world. …… We believe it is important for the United States to change its image and stop advancing its own democracy in other parts of the world. Many people within the United States actually lack confidence in American democracy and have varying views of the U.S. government.”
Anyone who knows anything about the systematic theft of the 2020 election by the Democratic Party’s anti-Trump coalition (Alliance for the Defense of Democracy), especially the fact that China was deeply involved in the U.S. election and helped steal it (as stated by the former intelligence director after November 7), and who has read the comments of the Chinese official media and official scholars on this issue, understands that “the people of the world will judge “The “stop promoting your own democracy in other parts of the world” means: the US Democratic Party will use the full set of methods to promote color revolutions abroad for the 2020 election. This is what official Chinese scholars have said, and I believe it is a common refrain at CCP Politburo meetings.
Blinken knew this well enough to respond to Yang’s statement with the following paragraph: “Another hallmark of our leadership at home is the constant pursuit, as we say, of a more perfect union. And that quest, by definition, is to acknowledge that we are imperfect, that we make mistakes, that we reverse, that we backtrack. But what we have done throughout history is to face these challenges openly, publicly, and transparently, not to try to ignore them, not to try to pretend they don’t exist, not to try to cover them up. Sometimes it’s painful, sometimes it’s ugly, but each time, we’ve come out stronger, better, more united as a nation.”
Young’s passage and Blinken’s targeted response were intentionally ignored by both Chinese and foreign media. For the Chinese side, it is a point of order, despite the evidence at hand, but only to knock, and it is far better to draw attention to this than to tear the face off and talk about it; for the U.S. side, it is a pain in the heart, involving the legitimacy of the current administration. For the Western media, this is a fact they try to hide, since 2016, the West, especially the U.S. media on issues related to Trump, exaggerated ten times a hundred times reported in his favor, wrong and never apologized, the New York Times has exhaustively reported many times on the January 6 Capitol Hill incident in the death of Officer Brian Sicknick (Sicknick) The “truth” was quietly retracted after being exposed as a lie. The Washington Post’s story about the Georgia Secretary of State’s offer of Trump’s help in finding votes was also a lie, and again was only quietly withdrawn. In the U.S.-China talks in Alaska, Yang’s accusations of U.S. election fraud were actually the biggest tree to fall, but the U.S. media pretended not to see it and desperately reported on the small trees and branches that were broken.
Both China and the US only see each other’s weaknesses
The election fraud is a self-destruction of the U.S. left’s soft power, and Pompeo’s assessment of the incident refers to a “weakness” that is most likely this; the Democrats’ far-left socio-economic policies will cause a devastating blow to U.S. hard power, and the current Inflation shows that this day will come soon, but the U.S. powers-that-be are blind to it.
Xi Jinping recently said during the two sessions that “China can already look at the world on an even keel”; earlier, in an internal speech about the international situation, he made the point that “the West is strong and the East is weak” is the stock and the history; “the East is rising and the West is falling The political judgment that “the west is strong and the east is weak” is the stock and history; “the east is rising and the west is falling” is the increment and future. When it comes to Sino-US relations, Xi made the remarks that “the biggest source of chaos in the world today is in the United States” and “the United States is the biggest threat to China’s development and security”. Yang Jiechi’s speech at the Alaska meeting was a practical rehearsal of Xi Jinping’s “even-handedness” theory toward the United States.
Nowadays, it is necessary to revisit the experience of the U.S.-Soviet Cold War. George Kennan, the chief architect of the U.S. Cold War strategy, once said that the key to winning the Cold War was not weapons and equipment, but the ability to show the world that the United States could solve its own problems. Only by solving its own problems, “the United States can make the greatest contribution to the peaceful and orderly development of other nations and get the greatest benefit for itself”.
Kenan’s words actually tell the way of success for the United States to become a world leader: 1) solve its own problems; 2) help other countries to develop; 3) finally, let itself benefit from it.
There are no winners in the Alaska talks, China failed to let the United States regain Obama’s policy towards China, and the United States was pinched hard. Both sides need to revisit Kenan’s famous long telegram, which was included in the history books.
