Chen Jianfang’s case began, and all of the 70 petitioners in Shanghai who went to the trial were arrested.

The case of Chen Jianfang, a well-known Shanghai human rights activist, was heard at the Shanghai First Intermediate Court on March 19.

On the morning of the 19th, Wan Wenying and Yao Ya’e were taken into a police car with Ding Deyuan, Wei Qin and others before they reached the entrance of Shanghai No. 1 Central Court. She then texted Director Shu Qing about what happened. She said, “We came to learn the law, why did you arrest us? There are a lot of police and plainclothes outside, like an enemy, what is Chen Jianfang’s crime? She is a peasant woman who can subvert state power? Is your country a paper mache? What a big joke!”

Song Jiahong, a volunteer for the Shanghai People’s Liberation Army, believes that according to the regulations, “citizens can observe the public trial activities”. The public security authorities started to arrest Chen Jianfang from Song Yuan Road to Hong Qiao Road in the morning. He had to send a letter to Shu Qing, the new director of the Public Security Bureau.

According to Song Jiahong, police and plainclothes officers led by Shu Qing mobilized police cars and special security officers to intercept all the citizens who went to the 6th Court of the First Central Court to attend the hearing of Chen Jianfang’s case, and then took them to No. 500 Fucun Road in Putuo District to restrict their personal freedom and prevent them from attending the hearing. Among them were 90-year-old Liu Shuzhen (a martyr), Wang Lanying, an old Xinjiang youth, and Wan Wenying, a foreign daughter-in-law, among others.

Song Jiahong also pointed out that the police arrest people on sight is an illegal act, there are traditionally provisions for law enforcement officers to violate the law plus one, this illegal act of the city Public Security Bureau leaders at least committed the following crimes.

One, no law in the eyes, no masses in the heart, committed the crime of restricting personal freedom and kidnapping.

Second, interfering with the normal order of the court, suspected of negligence and seeking “provocation and nuisance”, escalating stability as a stimulus to activities, creating the history of the “black jail” on Fucun Road.

Many of Shanghai’s petitioners have been helped by Chen Jianfang, and both Sun Hongqin and Yin Huimin have publicly cried out for Chen Jianfang. On her Weibo account, Yin Huimin wrote, “A village woman subverting state power, is it possible?” in solidarity with Chen Jianfang.

Yin told the Epoch Times, “Many of the Shanghai petitioners have been helped by Chen Jianfang and have cried out for Chen’s grievances, and would never regret going to jail even if they did. If I don’t stand up and speak out today, I may not have the chance to do so again tomorrow. I hope more of my friends who have been helped by Chen Jianfang will be brave enough to stand up and cry out for Chen Jianfang’s innocence!”

Song Jiahong also reminded Director Shu Qing, “These are the words of the people, I hope you will listen more, there is no harm in having your eyes down.”
