Breitbart News reported that Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas claimed that it was “extraordinarily disrespectful” to ask him about illegal immigrants violating the American people.
During a House Homeland Security Committee hearing on Wednesday, Rep. Kat Cammack (D-Calif.) referred to 19-year-old Amber Scott of Douglas County, Colo. Scott was a high school cheerleader when she was abducted at knifepoint by Pedro Martinez, a 25-year-old illegal immigrant, in 2006. Martinez had previously been deported to his native Mexico on three felony drug charges, but he later returned illegally to the U.S. In May 2007, Martinez was sentenced to Life in prison without parole.
Carmack asked Mayorkas at the hearing, “How many more Scott’s were kidnapped across the United States before you took action?”
Mayorkas called the question “extraordinarily disrespectful.” He said, “Congresswoman, I find that question extraordinarily disrespectful. Not only is it disrespectful to me, but it’s disrespectful to the people of the Department of Homeland Security, and it’s disrespectful to all the people on the front lines in the United States who are dedicated to the safety of the American people.”
Readers commented that when they didn’t have an answer, the question became “disrespectful” and the head of DHS was offended by such a legitimate and important question? Are you kidding me? What other administration in the history of the United States has allowed a country to be invaded within 60 days? If this dumbass can’t take the criticism for that, he should resign.
Other readers believe that Democrats like to criticize people vociferously, but they certainly can’t stand to be criticized vociferously. But why didn’t any of the other Republicans stand up for themselves after this jerk said it was disrespectful to raise the issue of crime? Sure, there are a few exceptions, like Gates, but that’s not enough.
Another reader stated that Mayorkas’ mission, first, second, and third, is all about being responsible for the security and integrity of our citizens and borders. In fact, that is his only job. Congress has oversight of the executive branch, and Rep. Carmack has the right and obligation to ask questions that make him uncomfortable, especially when he is not doing his job. That’s how government works, and Rep. Carmack should continue to hammer him in every contact until he can answer the questions. Every other member of Congress should do the same.
Americans are often the victims of illegal immigration crimes. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) federal data on victims of immigration crimes shows that in 2020, about 700 calls have been received from Americans and their surviving Family members who have been victims of illegal alien crimes.
Rep. Mo Brooks (R-Ariz.) said that by long-standing estimates, about 2,000 Americans are killed by illegal immigrants each year.
In October 2020, President Trump issued a presidential proclamation designating Nov. 1 of each year as “National Day of Remembrance for Americans Killed by Illegal Immigrants.
