Biden’s bailout case infringes on local financial rights

President Joe Biden‘s $1.9 trillion bailout is facing its first major judicial challenge, as Ohio Republican officials filed a lawsuit today alleging that the tax provisions of the Biden bailout infringe on the state’s financial authority.

Biden only recently signed the $1.9 trillion bailout into law. The $1,400 bailout checks, which millions of families and workers desperately need, are already being sent out as part of the American Rescue Plan, which also allocates billions of dollars to state and local governments to fight the Epidemic.

But in a 12-page complaint, Russian Attorney General Dave Yost sued Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen, challenging a provision that prohibits states from using the bailout funds to make up for tax cuts and alleging that the federal government “overrides” state tax authority.

Before that, 21 state attorneys general wrote a joint letter on the 16th, vowing to take legal action against Biden’s bailout.
