The border is in crisis! Graham adds insult to injury, pushes for illegal immigrant amnesty

Breitbart News reports that Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) has joined Rep. Maria Salazar (D-Calif.) in pushing for Amnesty for illegal immigrants living in the United States amid a surge of illegal immigrants crossing the U.S.-Mexico border.

At a press conference Wednesday, Salazar unveiled the so-called “Dignity Proposal,” a plan that would make DACA-eligible illegal aliens legal residents, estimated at 1.5 million to 3.5 million, who could eventually apply for green cards and obtain U.S. citizenship. DACA is former President Obama’s Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.

Under the Dignity Proposal, other illegal immigrants already in the United States would be eligible for a 10-year work visa, but not benefits, as long as they pass a criminal background check and are able to work and pay taxes, an estimated 11 to 22 million people. After 10 years on a work visa, illegal immigrants will eventually receive a green card through five years of learning English and taking citizenship classes. Once the green card is granted, the illegal immigrant can apply for naturalization as a U.S. citizen. This program would eventually provide work visas for approximately illegal immigrants in the United States.

In addition, Greenham’s proposed amnesty would allow more foreign visa workers to work on U.S. farms and accept jobs in seasonal occupations.

Supporting the plan are one Republican senator and 10 Republican House members.

A director of the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR), RJ Hauman, told Breitbart News that it’s really not the right Time to introduce such a bill, considering that nearly 100,000 border crossers were arrested by federal immigration officials last month, a 170 percent increase over the same period last year, and nearly 17 million Americans are out of work but all want full-time jobs.

It’s time for Republicans in the House and Senate to unify in their opposition to an amnesty bill. Even under the best of circumstances, mass amnesty for illegal immigrants is bad policy. Amnesty under the guise of ‘dignity’ with the border crisis in full swing is an insult to common sense, not only to Republican voters, but to the American people as a whole.

In the Senate, National Republican Senatorial Committee Chairman Rick Scott (R-SC) has proposed a similar amnesty package that could allow 1.5 million illegal immigrants to be able to obtain U.S. citizenship.

The United States already issues more than 1.2 million green cards to foreign nationals each year, 70 percent of which are issued to relatives of U.S. citizens. In addition, about 1.4 million foreign nationals are able to obtain work visas each year to be employed in the United States.
