PayPal co-founder donates $10 million to support Vance’s Senate bid, and like Trump, Vance is a political outsider

Thiel was also one of the earliest investors in Facebook (Facebook). According to Bryan Lanza, public relations director for the Political Action Committee (PAC), he donated $10 million to the Protect Ohio The PAC has donated $10 million to the Protect Ohio Values PAC.

Protect Ohio Values was created to support Vance’s bid for the U.S. Senate, the group’s Web site says. The official documents were filed late last month.

We are a network of grassroots conservatives committed to electing a senator who will represent and defend Ohio’s values in Washington, D.C.,” the official website reads. We believe Vance is the best person for the job, and we are recruiting supporters and raising funds to create a wave of support in the Buckeye State.”

Thiel has donated to dozens of right-wing American politicians, including former President Donald Trump (R-Texas). Thiel was one of the California representatives for whom Trump was nominated. in October 2016, he announced a $1.25 million donation to Trump and was subsequently appointed to the executive committee of Trump’s transition team.

Like Trump, Vance is an outsider in political circles. As a venture capitalist and author, Vance has amassed a fortune. His book was made into a movie by Netflix last year.

Vance has not publicly said whether he will run, but a person familiar with the matter told, “All signs point to a campaign in which JD will launch.” Vance will run as a Republican, sources close to the situation confirmed.

Vance said back in 2016 that he wanted to run for office. He had reportedly considered running for the U.S. Senate in 2018.

He was previously the head of Thiel’s venture capital firm, Mithril Capital Management. He is probably best known for his book “Hillbilly Elegy,” which is about his Kentucky counterpart. The book is about the values of his Kentucky Family and the social problems of his hometown of Middletown.

The New York Times included “Hillbilly Elegy” among the six books necessary to “understand Trump’s 2016 victory.

If Vance chooses to run, he would be a contender for the seat vacated by Ohio Republican Sen. Rob Portman (R). Portman said in late January that he would not seek re-election in 2022, citing the growing political polarization in Washington, D.C.
