Beijing and Shanghai market regulators investigated Qihoo 360 overnight

On the evening of March 15, the Communist Party of China (CPC) market regulators in Beijing and Shanghai raided 360’s headquarters and Shanghai’s general agency respectively. The raids were allegedly in response to the false advertisements exposed by CCTV’s “3.15” gala.

According to the client of Beijing official media Beijing Daily, at around 10:00 p.m. on March 15, market supervision and law enforcement officials from Beijing and Chaoyang District rushed to 360’s headquarters in Jiuxianqiao, Chaoyang District, to investigate the “false advertising” problem exposed by CCTV’s “3.15” Gala. The problem of “false advertising” was exposed by CCTV’s “3.15” party.

The CCTV “3-15” evening party said that “360 Search” (a search engine developed by Beijing Qihoo Technology Co., Ltd.) has a chain of fake medical advertisements, and UC Browser is involved in casting false medical advertisements for unqualified companies.

As of 23:52 of Beijing Daily, market regulators are still investigating at 360’s headquarters.

In addition, “Interface News” reported that at 11:00 p.m. on the 15th, the market regulators of Shanghai Jiading District and Putuo District also entered the office of “360 Search” Shanghai general agent – Jingge Ltd. office for investigation, the person in charge of the company was present to accept the investigation.

In May 2020, Qihoo 360 was also included in the U.S. export control blacklist.

Another allegedly involved in the investment of false pharmaceutical advertising UC browser, is the wind on the core products of Alibaba’s mobile division. However, there is no news of Alibaba being investigated for “false medical advertising”.
