After two employees of the U.S. Consulate General in Hong Kong and Macau were diagnosed with Coronavirus 2019 (Chinese Communist Virus, COVID-19), all Consulate General personnel were required to undergo mandatory testing for the virus. This is the first Time a foreign consulate has been “fallen” since the outbreak began in Hong Kong.
The Director of the Centre for health Protection (CHP) of the Department of Health, Mr. Lam Man-kin, and the Chief Medical Officer of the Infectious Diseases Division of the CHP, Mr. Au Ka-wing, confirmed at a press conference today that two employees of the Consulate General were infected with the disease.
They pointed out that the relevant departments are following up the incident and all the staff of the Consulate General need to undergo mandatory virus testing.
According to the report, the two confirmed employees came to work in Hong Kong in September last year and received some immunization exemptions when they entered Hong Kong. However, the Department of Health believes that the two were infected locally and are local confirmed cases.
The Consulate General has issued a notice that it will cooperate with the Hong Kong health authorities’ Epidemic prevention regulations and thoroughly disinfect the premises.
It is understood that the Consulate General has suspended operations until the results of the virus tests are available.
This is the first time since the outbreak of the disease in Hong Kong that a foreign consulate has been subject to mandatory quarantine due to a confirmed case.
