A Nigerian mutant strain of CCP virus was found in Guangdong, which is more transmissible and may lead to reinfection of cases infected with CCP virus.
China’s Guangdong Provincial CDC WeChat public website released on the afternoon of March 14 that on March 12, the center successfully discovered the first Nigerian mutant strain of B.1.525 from the nasopharyngeal swabs of two cases of CCP virus imported from abroad, and the isolation of the virus is still in progress. The mutant virus is more transmissible and may lead to re-infection in cases that have been infected with CCP virus.
It is reported that, up to now, the Nigerian mutant strain of the new coronavirus has been transmitted in 26 countries worldwide. Some studies have pointed out that the Nigerian mutant strain makes the virus more transmissible, which can easily lead to the emergence of antibody neutralization and escape, and may lead to reinfection of cases infected with the CCP virus.
This is following the January 2 in a confirmed case of imported Chinese Communist virus in the United Kingdom found in the throat swab samples of B.1.1.7 mutant strain, January 6 in a case of overseas importation of South African Chinese Communist virus in the throat swab isolated 501Y.V2 South African mutant strain, Guangdong again found overseas importation of Chinese Communist virus mutant strain.
On March 5, the Guangdong CDC received nasopharyngeal swab samples from the Guangzhou CDC for the two cases and immediately conducted virus isolation and genome sequencing analysis. On the morning of March 12, through the genetic sequencing analysis of the original samples, the results suggested that it was subtype B.1.525, a Nigerian mutant strain.
It is worth mentioning that the Guangdong Provincial CDC has found the British mutant strain of CCP virus, the South African mutant strain and the Nigerian mutant strain.
