On Wednesday, March 10, President Joe Biden made a rare appearance at a joint announcement with vaccine manufacturers, Becker News reported. His question-and-answer session raised questions about whether U.S. taxpayer dollars are being used in large amounts to help other countries.
At the event, Biden tried to reassure the audience that the United States would survive the Epidemic and have a promising future. As he was turning to leave, a reporter shouted a question at him. So Biden turned around and selectively answered only one question about what to do with the excess vaccine, while avoiding questions about when he would hold a press conference and whether there was a crisis at the border.
To the question about vaccines, Biden thought for a moment and replied, “The United States will share (vaccines) with the rest of the world. We have decided to work with the COVAX agency (a reference to the global program launched by the WHO in 2020). We have committed $4 billion to help get more vaccines around the world. We will make sure that we take care of Americans first, but then we will try to help the rest of the world.”
In Biden’s concept, “America First” seems to mean “we’re not just going to take care of the United States, but the rest of the world,” according to the newspaper’s analysis. And in a sense, it makes the global pandemic an American responsibility, a frightening statement. “It will leave American taxpayers paying billions of dollars with no way of knowing how the money will be spent.”
The newspaper reported that Biden’s comments also echoed remarks made by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Tuesday, March 9. When reporters asked her if the $1.9 trillion relief bill was the last one, Pelosi replied, “You’ll have to ask the virus …… to see if it stops spreading and mutating.” That answer implied that the epidemic would be a reason for the government to write a check over it at any Time, and that taxpayers would pay for it.
