A spokesman for Burma’s military government said today that deposed elected leader Ung San Suu Kyi illegally accepted US$600,000 in bribes and more than 11 kilograms of Gold during her tenure, and that the bribes have been confirmed and many people involved are being investigated.
Myanmar Deputy Information Minister Brigadier General Zaw Min Tun said that deposed President Win Myint and several cabinet chiefs were also involved in corruption, and that Win Myint had pressured the Myanmar Election Commission not to take action on election fraud reported by the military.
It is the strongest accusation since the military overthrew the top civilian leaders, including Aung San SuuKyi, on Feb. 1. The leaders remain under house arrest.
