Texas town 25% of illegal immigrants test positive for virus

Illegal immigrants wait for a bus at a bus stop to meet their loved ones or sponsors in the Texas city of Brownsville, Texas, March 2.

A quarter of the illegal immigrants brought to a small Texas town have tested positive for the CCA virus (coronavirus). The information was revealed by a local shelter supervisor. Border Patrol agents bring illegal immigrants who are caught and then released there.

According to the Washington Times, Bill Reagan, director of Loaves and Fishes, a Food bank and shelter in Harlingen, Texas, said there may be more cases of the virus, but they are not being tested because, given local conditions, testing is “almost useless. The test is “almost useless” given local conditions.

Reagan told a Harlingen City Council meeting last week that illegal immigrants are being processed at the border and bused to his shelter, Loaves and Fishes. They may have been infected with COVID-19, a pneumonia disease caused by a Chinese communist virus, but had no symptoms of infection. There’s not much the city can do about the situation, he said.

“We can’t quarantine them (illegal immigrants),” he told commissioners, “and even if they test positive, they will leave the next day. They’ll get on a bus or a plane and they’ll leave.”

He said there was a 25 percent positive rate of viral tests among the first group of people sent to the shelter.

Those illegal immigrants are now likely scattered across the country, challenging the Biden administration’s insistence that its border policy is not enhancing the spread of the CCP virus.

Harlingen is one of several cities deep in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas. All of these cities are experiencing new waves of illegal immigration. They are struggling to deal with people who have been caught by border agents and then released into the community.

In its treatment of illegal immigrants, the Biden Administration has allowed illegal immigrants to enter and be released into communities in violation of its own mandated guidelines for prevention, including testing and quarantine of normal travelers, the report said.

Mr. Reagan, appearing before the Harlingen City Commission in a videoconference Wednesday, said the shelters he runs are testing illegal immigrants for viruses, but that doesn’t make much sense. He said the tests are really almost useless because the people are detained together in close quarters, sometimes for weeks, before being released. Some people who originally tested negative may have also been exposed to the virus recently.

Reagan said the men may have had no defense on their way to various parts of the United States.

In other places, there is no regular testing of illegal immigrants at all.

Local officials in Arizona told the Washington Times that cities and counties do not have the capacity to test illegal immigrants for COVID-19 or to house them, and that nonprofit organizations either do not have the equipment or lack that capacity.

The Biden administration has taken some notable actions to undo the Trump-era crackdown on illegal immigration, including revoking the Migrant Protection Protocol (MPP), which keeps illegal immigrants in Mexico, and limiting priorities for enforcement and deportation of illegal immigrants, while halting construction of the border wall. Biden also pledged to legalize 11 million illegal immigrants. In addition, the Biden administration has reinstated catch-and-release, the practice of releasing captured illegal immigrants into the United States, which has resulted in the release of some illegal immigrants who have been tested for the Chinese Communist virus (coronavirus).

Republican lawmakers condemned Biden’s policy for contributing to the overwhelming tide of illegal immigrants. Rep. James Comer (R-Texas), the ranking Republican member of the House Oversight and Reform Committee, said, “President Biden’s actions are encouraging more illegal immigration and attracting more Parents to bring their children to the United States knowing they will soon be released into our country. President Biden should follow President Trump’s lead to curb the border crisis instead of resorting to a ‘catch and release’ policy.”

More than two dozen federal House Republican lawmakers urged Biden on March 5 to restore the national emergency at the southern border as the U.S. border faces an influx of illegal immigrants in crisis.

“We urge you to recognize that an (illegal) immigration crisis is occurring and restore the national emergency at our southern border.” The lawmakers wrote in their letter.

“There is no doubt that we are at a Time of border crisis. President Biden got this (border crisis) started by rolling back numerous Trump-era immigration policies, which is why we urge him to immediately restore the national emergency at our border.” Rep. Lance Gooden, the Republican who led the effort to sign the letter, told Fox News.
