The National Archives reports that Nicholas J. Fuentes was banned from Clubhouse during his first broadcast.
The report said that Fuentes, America’s No. 1 commentator, was banned from using the chat App Clubhouse for violating their “hateful conduct” policy during his first show.
Fuentes broadcast his first show on Clubhouse Saturday night. The room, which featured a handful of guests including conservative commentator Jon Miller and a reporter from the National Archives, casually and lightheartedly discussed topics ranging from the current cultural divide among conservatives, who should be in the “big tent” of the conservative movement, immigration and America, free speech and the Culture of abolition.
However, about three hours after it began airing, Fuentes was banned from the app for the conversation. In a post on Twitter, the “America First” commentator revealed that his account had been suspended from the app for violating their “abhorrent behavior policy” for conversations. Fuentes told the National Archives exclusively that “Clubhouse is just another big tech platform for anti-free speech” and “don’t waste your Time on it!”
Andrew Torba,CEO of free speech social network Gab, had warned earlier this week that Clubhouse could be censored.” Clubhouse is owned, funded and controlled by Silicon Valley,” Torba said.” If the right thinks they have any future on this platform, they are fooling themselves.” He noted that the app developers are discussing how to use artificial intelligence to moderate conversations. Toba also emphasized that they are funded by a16z (Andreessen Horowitz ), an investment fund that also provides funding to big tech companies like Facebook and Instagram. He added that Gab will release its own version of the app later this year.
It’s not clear exactly why or how Fuentes was banned. It’s possible that Fuentes was overheard by someone in the conversation, using the local reporting feature and reporting directly to the app. Another possibility is that the app decided to ban Fuentes because of reports from leftist political journalists who live-tweeted the conversation. clubhouse had been pegged by some as the potential next app for the “far right” to reach out to, which could have caused a quick backlash against Fuentes from the app. The National Archives has reached out to Clubhouse for comment and will update this story if there is a response.
