Google launches major new tool

Google announced earlier on its official blog the launch of a new generation of “Flutter2” development tools, allowing developers to quickly port the same set of code to current mainstream operating systems and platforms, including iOS, Android, macOS, Windows 10 and Linux. It also supports web applications that are primarily accessed by browsers.

In addition, Flutter2 also allows users to quickly distribute apps to CarPlay, Android Auto and other car systems, as well as tvOS, Android TV and other TV operating systems, supporting all major operating system platforms, greatly expanding the flexibility of using Android apps.

This also means that Google has changed Flutter’s original focus on mobile device framework to one that is more oriented to Web and computer applications. The move may also allow Android apps to appear more smoothly on Microsoft Windows 10, to take on the Apple camp that has tried to make iOS apps available directly on Macs with Apple Silicon processors.

In fact, Microsoft has also revealed that it is officially using Flutter to develop programs for its Surface Duo folding phone, while Toyota has also announced that it will develop its own in-car system with Flutter support.

Google revealed that the initial version of Flutter2 will focus on three scenarios, including Progressive Web App (PWA), Single Page Application (SPA), and allowing users to port existing apps built with Flutter to Web tools. All of these designs are expected to allow more programs to be used by Windwos10 or macOS users through Edge and Safari browsers in the form of PWA.

Google also revealed that there are currently 150,000 apps built with Flutter on the Play Store, and these apps can be directly upgraded through Flutter2 and deployed as Web or PC versions without significant rewriting of the code.

Google has also announced some apps built with Flutter, such as its own Google Pay, and Flutter2 will be available for developers to use from now on.
