Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region Chairman Bu Xiaolin has not appeared since he suddenly fainted during a presentation at a meeting of the Inner Mongolia People’s Congress on Jan. 26. When Xi Jinping attended the deliberations of the Inner Mongolia National People’s Congress delegation at the “two sessions”, he called for the promotion and popularization of “Chinese language”, but Bu Xiaolin still did not show up.
The official Xinhua News Agency reported that on the afternoon of March 5, Xi Jinping made a speech while attending the deliberations of the Inner Mongolia National People’s Congress delegation, calling for the promotion and popularization of Chinese characters, “especially starting with youth Education,” and the full implementation of the Communist Party’s “national textbook.
The Xinhua News Agency reports and video footage show that Bu Xiaolin of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region did not show up for the meeting.
Taiwan‘s Central News Agency reported that this is the fourth consecutive year that Xi has attended the Inner Mongolia delegation’s deliberations during the Communist Party’s “two sessions,” and that in September 2020, Inner Mongolia’s official demand that Mongolian schools use Chinese as the core language of instruction was met with resistance from the Mongolian population and a rare outbreak of protests and strikes involving tens of thousands of people.
But officials in Inner Mongolia continued to ignore the opposition and announced in February that Chinese would be used as the language of instruction for three subjects in the autonomous region starting in the fall.
On January 26, the fourth session of the 13th National People’s Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) in Inner Mongolia opened with Bu Xiaolin giving a report on his work as chairman of the autonomous region. According to an online video broadcast by Inner Mongolia Radio and Television, when Bu Xiaolin was talking about the sixth aspect of the work report, “continuous improvement of the ecological environment,” his voice suddenly became muffled, intermittent, and finally no sound at all. There was a commotion on the scene.
People on the podium turned their attention to the podium, and some even left their seats to stand. Subsequently, more than 10 behind-the-scenes staff members ran to the podium, where 4 or 5 of them carried away the suspected unconscious person In the process, Shi Taifeng, secretary of the CPC Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region Party Committee, had once suspended chairing the meeting and went to the background to understand the situation of Bu Xiaolin. Eventually, the live broadcast of the meeting was interrupted.
The government has also failed to show up for the closing ceremony of the fourth session of the 13th National People’s Congress on Jan. 30, when Bu Xiaolin, the chairman of the autonomous region, remained invisible. Not only that, the official also did not publicly comment on Bu Xiaolin’s sudden fainting and health condition.
