The Hong Kong government ordered 1 million doses of the mainland Kexing vaccine arrived in Hong Kong last week, and from February 26 for the priority group vaccination. Since the opening days, there have been a number of cases of suspected side effects. One of them is an old man in his 60s with a history of diabetes, who was recently sent to hospital with serious discomfort after receiving the vaccine and unfortunately died two days later.
The Hong Kong media reported on March 2 that a 63-year-old man with a history of severe diabetes and lung disease went to a community vaccination center in Kwun Chung last Friday (Feb. 26) for his first dose of Coxin vaccine. The old man had no discomfort before and after the vaccination and returned to his residence afterwards. But a day later, the old man was sent to Queen Elizabeth Hospital due to discomfort, and later developed shock symptoms, and died in the early hours of the 28th.
The hospital once suspected that the old man was infected with the Chinese Communist virus pneumonia, but a quick test confirmed a negative reaction. After a medical check of the clinical information system, found that the old man 2 days ago had been vaccinated Kexing, so according to the mechanism reported to the Department of health and the Coroner’s Court.
The Department of Health said it had received a report from the Hospital Authority on a suspected serious abnormality after vaccination with the Coxin vaccine, and was contacting the Hospital Authority to obtain more information on the incident for investigation and assessment, which was not determined to be related to vaccination for the Time being.
The Department of Health also said that the case will be referred to the New Crown Vaccine Clinical Event Assessment Expert Committee for causality assessment as soon as possible, and the assessment results will be released in due course.
The Kexing vaccine is the first New Crown pneumonia vaccine to be introduced in Hong Kong, and was hastily approved by the Hong Kong Government’s Vaccine Advisory Expert Committee for emergency use in Hong Kong last month. However, since the Phase III test data of the Kexing vaccine was reportedly not published in international medical journals and did not meet the standards set by the Hong Kong government earlier, the community widely questioned whether the Hong Kong government had “given the green light” to the Kexing vaccine under pressure from Beijing.
According to government data, as of the afternoon of March 1, 135,000 people had made appointments to receive the vaccine, and more than 20,000 people had received their first dose. In addition to the above-mentioned deaths, the media reported that a number of people suffered discomfort after vaccination.
A 72-year-old man reported palpitations seven minutes after receiving the vaccine at the Community Vaccination Center at the Kwun Chung Sports Centre in Jordan on March 27, and was taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital for medical treatment; a woman with High blood pressure reported discomfort after receiving the vaccine at the Yuen Wo Road Sports Centre in Shatin on March 28, but did not need to be sent to hospital.
Another four people also reported discomfort after receiving the vaccine at the Central Library Vaccination Center: a 39-year-old man had dizziness and tremors after receiving the vaccine and was sent to hospital.
