Dutch Parliament Passes Resolution Affirming Chinese Government’s “Genocide” of Uyghurs

The Dutch parliament passed a non-legally binding resolution recognizing the “genocide” committed by the Chinese government against the Uyghur minority, Reuters reported on Feb. 25.

The motion, without directly naming the Chinese government as the responsible party, states that “genocide against the Uighur minority is taking place in China” and that the authorities “are concerned with birth control” and “the establishment of punishment camps The authorities’ practice of “aiming at birth control” and “setting up punishment camps” is in line with UN Resolution 260, the definition of a genocide treaty.

According to reports, Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte’s conservative party voted against the resolution and did not recommend that the cabinet take specific action on it. A spokesman for the Dutch government said it would respond to this later.

After the United States and Canada, the Netherlands is now the first country in Europe to recognize China as the perpetrator of “genocide”.
