U.S. Congress Pushes High-Tech Support Bill to Address Communist China

The U.S. Congress has pushed legislation that includes hundreds of billions of dollars in domestic high-tech industries such as artificial intelligence and semiconductors to strengthen U.S. leadership in the high-tech sector and to address challenges from the Chinese Communist Party.

According to Reuters and Bloomberg, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) recently said he has directed a package of legislation to support the U.S. technology industry and counter unfair competitive practices by China.

Schumer said he has directed the relevant committees to develop a bipartisan bill seeking $100 billion in funding to spur domestic research in key technology areas, including areas ranging from artificial intelligence to quantum computing to semiconductors.

He also said the bill would create new jobs in the United States and keep the country ahead of China in those areas.

Schumer said, “I hope this bill addresses both short- and long-term U.S. plans to protect our semiconductor supply chain and also allow us to maintain our leadership in artificial intelligence, 5G communications, quantum computing, biomedical research, storage.”

The report also said a bipartisan group of U.S. lawmakers will meet with Biden at the White House on the 24th and discuss supply chain issues such as semiconductor chips.
