9to5Mac reports that Red Canary, an Internet security research firm, announced on the 21st that it has recently discovered a new form of malicious software that will affect all Mac computers worldwide, and that the malicious software will not only attack Intel-based Macs, but also M1 Macs with ARM architecture.
According to Red Canary researchers, the malicious software called “Silver Sparrow” was found to force Mac systems to send requests to unknown servers on an hourly basis. Although it has not yet been discovered what level of threat “Silver Sparrow” will actually pose to the computer, it cannot be ruled out that the device may still be triggered by certain conditions after being infected with the malicious software, and then execute destructive instructions or steal the user’s personal information, so the potential information security risk is still not to be underestimated.
Since “Silver Sparrow” uses JavaScript instructions, its impact is not only limited to Intel, but even ARM versions of Macs have been found, making it the second malicious software to be found on Apple Silicon processors.
“Silver Sparrow” is known to have been found in 153 countries worldwide, with a total of 29,139 macOS systems. Although the risk of the malware is still unknown, users are urged to take precautions.
