YouTube takes down nearly 3,000 channel accounts, most involving China

“Infosecurity Magazine reports that YouTube has taken down nearly 3,000 channels and accounts that are seen as part of the Communist Party’s and Russia’s respective influence campaigns.

Shane Huntley, head of Google‘s Threat Analysis Group (TAG), noted that the vast majority of the 2,946 channels taken down by YouTube were seen as part of the Chinese Communist Party‘s influence campaign.

Most of these channels uploaded Chinese spam about Music, entertainment and lifestyle,” he said. A small number upload Chinese and English content about the U.S. response to the 2019 coronavirus disease (Chinese Communist Virus, COVID-19) outbreak and increased political disagreements.”

Many of the threat analysis team’s remaining assignments so far this season have focused on Russia, with highlights including the takedown of three YouTube channels, two accounts and one mobile device developer account.
