According to Japanese public television station NHK today, The Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF), yesterday in the waters west of Kyushu, and the United States and French ships joint training, through the exercise to strengthen their understanding and cooperation, to improve tactical skills.
The Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force supply ship Hamana, and the U.S. guided missile destroyer Curtis Wilbur, as well as the French corvette. Wilbur, and the French corvette Makizuki, conducted a fuel replenishment exercise in the waters west of Kyushu. This is the first Time that France has participated in such an exercise since Japan and France signed the Mutual Supply of Goods and Services Agreement in 2018. The French Makigetsu was sent to the East China Sea only this month to monitor North Korean ship activities. The replenishment exercise appears to be focused on the countries’ decision to strengthen cooperation with each other in light of the high activity of the Chinese Communist Party in the nearby waters.
