U.S. media outlet National Pulse reported Thursday that Trump‘s impeachment lawyer Sean insisted that the former president is a completely different “persona” than the one described in the “newspapers. I was incredibly impressed by Trump’s kindness and respect,” David Shawn added in an interview with Ami magazine.
Sean noted, “I found Trump to be so different from the persona I read about in the newspapers. And he was very considerate of the Orthodox Jewish observances I follow.”
As an example, when we discussed my Shabbat observance. Trump said, ‘I’ve been in this situation before, when attorney Jason Greenblatt had to leave at a certain Time even in the middle of a huge deal.”

Ami Magazine is an international news magazine that caters to the Orthodox Jewish community and is published weekly in New York and Israel.
The three defense attorneys in the Trump impeachment trial are Bruce Castor, David Schoen and Michael van der Veen. Castor and van der Veen are both partners in the same Philadelphia law firm, while Schoen is a sole practitioner from Atlanta and an Orthodox Jew. Shawn asked for a recess of the impeachment trial during Shabbat, a request that was granted, but apparently many senators didn’t want to be held up, so Shawn wrote another letter saying he didn’t want to inconvenience 100 other people.
Sean said, “Either way, the president fully supported me, but Trump agreed to go with what the senators felt was best, even if it meant I couldn’t appear in court on the Sabbath. In the end I still didn’t go to the Q&A or closing arguments.”
In the interview, attorney Schoen revealed he “got a lot of hate mail” for representing the former president, but also got some really good wishes, many of which were about his not appearing in court on Shabbat.
During the trial, Schoen presented a nearly 12-minute montage of “fighting” rhetoric used by prominent Democrats.
