At present, the student has been arrested by the police on charges of “participating in unauthorized assembly” and “inciting secession”, and the case has been taken over by the National Security Division of the police for investigation.
It has been reported that the Chinese University of Hong Kong held its graduation ceremony online on November 19 last year in response to the Epidemic, but some graduates marched on the campus. The university reported the case to the police, alleging that the marchers were suspected of violating the Gathering Restriction Order and the Public Order Ordinance, and displaying Hong Kong independence banners and flags, shouting slogans such as “Hong Kong independence and subversion of state power”. The National Security Division of the police then took action in December last year, arresting eight people for “participating in an unauthorized assembly” and “inciting secession” in connection with the march on CUHK’s campus.
According to data released by the Hong Kong police, the authorities have arrested a total of 99 people, aged 16 to 79, on charges of “allegedly violating the National Security Law.
