Wei Yi
In the sixth year of Yuanhe of Emperor Xianzong of Tang Dynasty, Wei Zi of Jingzhao was working in the office of Fan Wu, the minister of Lian in Wanling. In the early autumn of July, it was raining heavily, and he was working in his office when he fell asleep because he was tired.
He suddenly dreamed that a person sent a business card with the words “Li Sheyan” clearly written on it. After a while, in a daze, Wei heard someone say in the air, “The first prize winner of next year’s examination.” In the early years of Yuanhe, a man named Li GuYin won the scholarship. The word Wei was very surprised: when people take a name, rarely use the word, could there be another Li Gu Yan?
In mid-autumn, August, indeed, a scholar who won the first place in the countryside exams sent a business card, just like in the dream, but the middle of the word “old” for “solid”, he is the West Marshal’s Li Gong. Wei concealed what happened in the dream and said, “You will be able to pass next year’s exam and still be the top of the crowd.” In the winter of that year, Xu Mengrong, the minister of the Ministry of War, presided over the exams, and Li Guyan was indeed the top of the list.
At the beginning, Li Guyan had a dream that he was wearing the clothes of Chancellor Song Jing. After the tenth year of Yuanhe, Song Jing’s fame grew and his reputation was so high that there were rumors that he was going to be a great official. However, by the Time he became the governor of Zechu, he passed away. Li Guyan was therefore very skeptical of this dream.
In the early year of Changqing, Emperor Mujong came to Yuanqiu for something. At that time, Li Guyan was the left collector. According to the old rule, the officials who followed The Emperor on the trip saluted the emperor, and Taichang had to give each of them a dress. Li Guyan picked up the dress he was given and saw that it was written on the top: 左补阙宋景衣. Then he told his companions about it.

Pang Yan
One day, a few months after he arrived at his post, he suddenly dreamed that two monks came into his bedroom. Pang Yan did not believe in Buddhism and rebuked the monks in his dream.
The monks said, “Don’t be angry, I have the power of foresight, so I have come to instruct you.”
Pang Yan was pleased to hear this and asked, “Can I become a chancellor?” “No.” “Will I be a sectional governor?” “No.”
“Then what kind of official can I be?” The monk said, “Something similar to a liege but without military power, with land but not within the capital. What happens after this, I don’t know.”
Pang Yan asked again, “And what is my Life expectancy?” The monk said, “What a pity! What you lack is longevity. If you could live a long life, you would have nothing more to ask for.”
Pang Yen asked again, “When can I leave here?” The monk replied, “On the 22nd of May next year, that is, when the officials are transferred next spring.”
Pang Yan had previously written an application to Ambassador Lian asking for his help. Yuan Zhen, who was then the Lian envoy, had a good relationship with Pang Yan and was bound to grant his request, and the matter was just around the corner. On the last day of the month, Pang Yan hosted a banquet. Yuan Zhen wrote and said, “You have to wait for the handover.” Pang Yan wrote back and said, “I already know I can’t go.” Then he recounted in detail the dream he had. Sure enough he was transferred to a new post on the 22nd of May. He later died during his tenure as Jingzhao Yin.
