Shocker! President Trump is more popular in the Republican Party than Ronald Reagan

A new poll by The Economist/YouGov found that President Trump is more popular among Republicans than President Reagan, U.S. media outlet Gateway Pundit reported on Wednesday. The poll was conducted during Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s second Trump impeachment trial. The poll also showed that Liz Cheney and Mitch McConnell had the most damage to their popularity.

The Washington Examiner reported that in the latest Economist/Your Governance poll, 36 percent of Republicans said Trump was the best. Only 18 percent called Reagan the best, while another 13 percent said President Abraham Lincoln was the best president and 11 percent chose George Washington. The poll’s results were the opposite of two years ago, with 36 percent of Republicans choosing Reagan in the 2018 poll and only 10 percent saying Trump was the best president.

This year’s poll was conducted during Trump’s second Senate impeachment trial, during which seven Republicans voted to convict Trump and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell did not vote to impeach, but still blamed Trump for the congressional riots.

In such a voting environment, Trump still managed to get such high popularity, further proving that Trump is still the party leader in the eyes of Republicans. Another survey this week found that 75 percent of people want Trump to play a “prominent role” in the Republican Party.

Trump said on Tuesday that he will continue to be a political voice for the Republican Party and will play a role in the 2022 election as he lashed out at the “swamp” and establishment Republicans.
