The world’s only dry lotus tree, more than 400 years old and growing in the Dry Lotus Courtyard of the Marquis Shrine, has bloomed early, the mainland media reported Tuesday (16).
It is said that the tree was planted by the ancients in memory of Zhuge Liang, and some experts have used radiocarbon dating to determine the age of the tree, which is more than 400 years old, equivalent to the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty, which is consistent with what is recorded in the tomb records of the ancestral temple.
The dry lotus will only bloom at the beginning of next month, but it is believed that because of the recent rise in local temperatures, it will meet with the public earlier.
The flower buds only grow in May and take more than ten months to nurture, and the flower blooms in the early spring of the following year after three seasons: summer, autumn and winter. At first, it is red, and when it blooms, it is red and white. Because of its uniqueness and history, the Hanzhong city government has chosen it as the city flower.
