A pet cat in Jinju City, South Korea, was diagnosed with Wuhan pneumonia (novel coronavirus disease, COVID-19) on the 24th of last month, making it the first confirmed case of an animal in South Korea.
According to the Yonhap News Agency, the Seoul Metropolitan Government announced today that the cat kept by the confirmed case was also confirmed to be infected with Wuhan pneumonia, which is the first Time that Seoul has found a positive result for a pet virus test, and Seoul has been open to pet virus testing since the 8th, and if they have been in contact with the confirmed person and have fever, cough and breathing difficulties, they can be sampled, and so far a total of 3 dogs and 1 cat have been tested.
The pet cat that was diagnosed this time was diagnosed in the household, and if the pet was cared for, it could be isolated at Home, but since the cat’s owner’s entire Family was diagnosed, it was moved to an animal protection facility for quarantine protection, and the city said that although the quarantine period is 14 days after the date of diagnosis, the cat is currently in good condition and will be released from quarantine later if there are no clinical symptoms and the test results are negative.
The Seoul Metropolitan Government stressed that there is no evidence that pets can transmit the virus to people, so people need not be too worried, but for the safety of the public and animals, dogs should be kept at a distance of more than 2 meters from people and animals when walking them.
