Texas is facing a historic winter storm. Texas Governor Greg Abbott issued an emergency disaster declaration Saturday (Feb. 13) and urged people to stay Home as much as possible and conserve electricity.
“Every part of Texas will be facing freezing conditions in the coming days, and I urge all Texans to remain vigilant for the extreme weather that is coming.” Abbott said Saturday.
“Stay off the roads, take conscious steps to conserve energy, and avoid doing dangerous things like bringing generators inside and using ovens or stoves to heat your home.”
Freezing conditions led to a 13-vehicle collision in Magnolia, Texas, on Friday (Feb. 12).
This comes a day after a 133-vehicle pileup in Fort Worth, Texas, on Thursday (Feb. 11) that killed at least six people and injured dozens more. Texas authorities have been placed on high alert.

Governor Abbott has issued a statewide emergency disaster declaration and will ask the White House to issue a federal emergency declaration.
“Our emergency response to this winter weather requires a collective and cooperative approach by state agencies, local officials and Texans throughout our communities to ensure the safety and security of the state.” Abbott said Saturday.
The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for nearly every county in the state, saying travel in north and central Texas “could be very difficult …… potentially late Sunday into Monday.”
“Snow totals of a few inches are expected for most of Oklahoma and north Texas.” The Weather Prediction Center wrote Saturday that snow will begin falling across Texas late Saturday. Temperatures will drop sharply over the next 72 hours.
The National Weather Service in Amarillo warned, “Dangerously cold winds below minus 20 degrees are expected in the Panhandles each morning for the next three days, with values as low as minus 30 degrees on Monday morning.”
Abbott said, “The roads will be very dangerous.” Most of Texas “will face historic cold temperatures that will last for several days.
In addition to the historic storms in Texas, hazardous weather has covered nearly every region of the United States.
In the Pacific Northwest, a major storm brought heavy snow and freezing rain to Portland and Seattle. More than 6 inches of snow fell in the outer areas of Seattle and Portland, while south of Portland a devastating ice storm.

Oregon health & Science University (Oregon) said the mass vaccination site for COVID-19 (Chinese Communist Virus-Induced Lung Cancer Disease) at the Oregon Convention Center in Portland was closed Saturday and Sunday due to weather.
Freezing rain left roads, power lines and trees iced over in the Portland, Oregon, area, and by Saturday morning, more than 270,000 people were without power. The extreme conditions, loss of power and traffic problems prompted Oregon Governor Kate Brown to declare a state of emergency Saturday afternoon.
“Staff is now fully committed and are coordinating emergency services, such as warming centers, with local emergency response teams.” Brown said in a statement. “I am committed to providing state resources to ensure that responders have the resources they need on the ground.”
