Trump impeachment defense attorney Michael T. van der Veen said the news media is creating many divisions for the country and profiting from misinterpreting the facts. He called for the media to report the facts fairly.
After the Feb. 13 impeachment defense, van der Veen told CBS News that “what this country wants and needs is for the country to become united,” but that the media is intentionally dividing the country “because if the media wants to tell its story, it doesn’t need to tell it like it is now “He said the media must “start telling the right story in this country” and spoke of “the media trying to divide the country” for profit.
“(The media) you are bloodthirsty and eager to get ratings. You’re asking questions that are already built on a subjective platform,” he said.
“(For example) when I’m watching the news, I watch a TV station that says it’s raining right now. And I’m looking at another station at the same Time and it’s clear. Your coverage is so slanted that it has to stop. You have to start reporting like PBS, not like a TV news program that has absolutely no journalistic integrity whatsoever. What I’m telling you is that they (the media) have tampered with the evidence,” Vandeven said.
When asked by a CBS reporter about the video released by the House impeachment manager, Vandeven said that during the impeachment case, the House impeachment manager also “tampered with the evidence. They didn’t investigate the case, and when they had to go to the Senate Court to hear the case because they didn’t do any investigation, they tampered with the evidence. It’s absolutely shocking. I think when we found it and were able to make it public and release it, I think it got the attention of a lot of senators.”
Prior to that, Vandeven denounced on Fox News that he received nearly 100 threats and was attacked at his Home address and workplace during his defense of Trump, claiming that he was treated so undeservedly for doing nothing more than conducting his job duties.
