The Breitbart News reports that Democrats want to strip Gov. Cuomo of his coronavirus emergency powers after a cover-up of data on nursing Home coronavirus (CCHV) deaths.
New York Democrats, in a rare rebuke to Governor Andrew Cuomo, are calling for the Democratic leader to be stripped of his coronavirus (or CCP virus, hereafter) emergency powers in response to his administration’s cover-up of nursing home coronavirus death data.
Cuomo, who has generally enjoyed full compliments from the establishment media and fellow Democrats throughout the CCP coronavirus pandemic, is facing a backlash from Democratic state senators after New York Secretary of State Melissa DeRosa (D) privately admitted that the administration covered up data on nursing home deaths over concerns about a federal investigation by the Trump administration.
Fourteen Democratic lawmakers drafted a statement insisting that it is now clear that “the expanded emergency powers granted to the governor are no longer appropriate.”
“Without exception,” the lawmakers wrote, “the New York State Constitution requires the Legislature to govern as an equal branch of government.”
“While COVID-19 (the Chinese Communist virus) has tested the limits of our people and the state – and, in the early days of the Epidemic, required government to reorganize decision-making to provide rapid, necessary public health judgment – it is clear that the expanded emergency powers granted to the governor are no longer appropriate.”
“While the executive branch’s authority to issue directives expires on April 30, we urge the Senate to move forward and pass a repeal as soon as possible.” They said.
Those state senators include Alessandra Biaggi, Jabari Brisport, Samra Brouk and 14 other senators.
Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins also warned the governor, cautioning lawmakers to “discuss the next step as a conference.
Critical information should never be withheld from those entities that have the authority to conduct oversight,” she said.
The statement followed a New York Post report Thursday that revealed private phone calls between DeRosa (Cuomo’s secretary) and state lawmakers in which she acknowledged that the administration was withholding nursing home data for fear of a federal investigation.
That prompted pushback from prominent New York lawmakers, including Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.) and Lee Zeldin (R-Ohio), who both called for a Justice Department investigation.
Rep. Elise Stefanik said in a statement that “Governor Cuomo, the Secretary of State and his senior team must be prosecuted immediately – both the New York State Attorney General and the U.S. Department of Justice must prosecute (them),”
Lee Zeldin said on Thursday night that “the Justice Department needs to immediately launch an obstruction of justice investigation into Cuomo & his administration.”
More than 9,000 recovering coronavirus patients were sent to nursing homes and long-term care facilities in New York after the Cuomo administration issued a controversial directive on March 25 requiring such patients to be accepted in nursing homes and long-term care facilities.
