China’s Alibaba Group founder Jack Ma criticized the authorities’ financial regulatory system in October last year, and officials suspended Alibaba’s Ant Group’s listing plan in November, since then Ma has gone into hiding. But some foreign media revealed that Ma has recently appeared in Hainan Island to play golf. Central News Agency (CNA) said Ma’s golf trip proves that, at least so far, he has avoided the worst of the worst, such as being jailed or having his assets seized by the government.
According to the Central News Agency today, Ma’s whereabouts have led to speculation from all walks of Life, as reported by Bloomberg sources: he was playing golf on Hainan Island.
Jack Ma, the founder of Alibaba Group, has been out of sight since November 2020, when Chinese officials suspended Alibaba’s Ant Group’s IPO plans, but Bloomberg said he was recently playing golf on Hainan Island. According to Bloomberg News, Ma’s whereabouts have been the subject of speculation for months, with some speculating that he has fled to Singapore and others that he is under house arrest or even in a high-security prison. In fact, Ma has recently been refining his golf skills.
According to people familiar with the matter, Jack Ma, founder of Alibaba Group and Ant Group, has been playing at the Red Canyon Golf Resort (Sun Valley Golf Resort) on China’s Hainan Island in recent weeks. The 27-hole golf course, near the southern tip of Hainan Island, has expansive greens and breathtaking views.
The report said it was the first Time Ma had been seen in public since Jan. 20 this year. After Chinese officials suspended the Ant Group’s listing plan in early November last year, Ma was not seen until Jan. 20, when he delivered a speech via video message at the rural Teacher Award ceremony held by the “Ma Yun Charity Foundation.
The Central News Agency said Ma’s golf trip proves that, at least so far, he has avoided the worst of it, such as being jailed or having his assets seized by the government.
Representatives of Alibaba, Ant Group and Red Canyon Golf Club declined to comment on the news that Ma was playing golf on Hainan Island, the report said.
