U.S. e-commerce giant Amazon.com, in conjunction with Italian brand name company Ferragamo, filed a lawsuit against multiple companies and individuals selling counterfeit products over the Internet, Reuters reported on Feb. 11. The defendants are primarily located in China.
Court documents show that Amazon and Ferragamo are suing four individuals and three businesses. The indictment alleges that the defendants advertised and sold counterfeit Ferragamo belts and other goods through a Web store set up on Amazon without trademark authorization. five of the seven individual or corporate defendants are located in China. The remaining two defendants may be located in China, North Carolina or California, and the location of multiple other defendants is unknown.
The indictment emphasizes that Amazon and Ferragamo are committed to taking additional legal action to permanently end the infringement of the two companies’ intellectual property rights by the relevant defendants.
It is reported that e-commerce giant Amazon issued new rules against counterfeit goods last year, promising to provide more information leads to law enforcement as a way to clean up the majority of counterfeit goods from China on Amazon’s website.
