On October 17, 2015, the Family of Qi Li, a former reporter for Xinhua News Agency’s Habitat magazine, returned to Beijing from Lanzhou, thousands of miles away, carrying her ashes, and buried her in a cemetery not far from her mother in the suburbs of Beijing. The family was saddened by the death of her.
On April 8, 2014, Qi Li, who suffered from extreme malnutrition due to her involvement in reporting internal corruption and wrongful imprisonment, was rushed by her family to the PLA 306 Hospital, where she was initially diagnosed with eight diseases, including extremely severe iron-deficiency anemia, hypoproteinemia, hypokalemia and fluid in the abdominal cavity, and was soon found to be suffering from severe colon cancer with bleeding, so she was urgently transferred to a general hospital of the PLA in Beijing, where on May 19 The hospital organized experts to make a resection operation, and Qi Li, whose body was severely thin and deformed, was placed under key supervision and underwent a severe test of Life‘s fate. This day, coincidentally, is also the ninth anniversary of her and another Xinhua News Agency reporter Feng Jie suffered wrongful imprisonment.

She was arrested ten years ago after being falsely accused by a corrupt Xinhua News Agency official of perjury.
On May 19, 2005, she and her colleague Feng Jie were arrested for reporting the corruption of individual officials of Xinhua News Agency in Qingdao, and they were accused of perjury and multiple charges by corrupt officials.

The Xinhua News Agency (Xinhua) has produced a large number of false testimonies to falsely accuse and frame anti-corruption journalists.
For example, the Xinhua News Agency falsely accused Qi Li of being a “jobless and unlawful person” in society; the court verified that Qi Li had been employed by the Shandong Branch since 1995, and had many years of salary files and many circumstantial evidence until 2003, a complete system of proof of eight years of work experience.
For example, from 2003, when Qi Li was hired as a reporter for the Xinhua News Agency’s Habitat magazine, until 2005, when he was persecuted and arrested, every issue of Habitat magazine had Qi Li’s name on the copyright page of the “Reporter’s Department” list, and many articles and photos signed by “Habitat Reporter: Qi Li “Liu Guangjun, the editor-in-chief, had written several “letters of introduction to journalists”, but after the case, he falsely claimed that Qi Li was a “fake journalist”; until the court arraignment, after judicial Appraisal, it was confirmed that Liu Guangjun had issued false testimony. ……
Qi Li was framed as a “fake reporter” based on the fact that she did not have a “press card” issued by the State Press and Publication Administration, and in practice, there are a large number of journalists on retainer at newspapers. “fake journalists”. In fact, Qi Li’s documents are complete, and his identity as a reporter for Xinhua News Agency’s Habitat for Humanity is ironclad.
After years of judicial review, the people’s courts at both levels confirmed Qi Li’s ten years of experience with Xinhua News Agency and his identity as a reporter for Habitat magazine, and the State Compensation Letter clearly found that “Qi Li, a reporter for Xinhua News Agency’s Habitat magazine,” which is different from Xinhua News Agency’s false report official document falsely accusing Qi Li of being ” This is in stark contrast to Xinhua’s false report which falsely accused Qi Li of being a “jobless member of society”.
The trial found that Xinhua News Agency handed over more than 40 testimonies and official letters to the judiciary, with as many as 37 false testimonies, which is shocking.
Acquitted but lost his job, the family was in a desperate situation
The case alarmed the top brass.
In 2009, the Supreme People’s Court identified and found the journalists’ case to be a wrongful one, and Qi Li and Feng Jie were acquitted twice by courts at the first and second trial levels.
After the acquittal of the journalists, the discipline inspection department of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection in Xinhua News Agency conducted another internal investigation into the corruption case of 42 mu of Qingdao land reported by the journalists, which took more than a year to confirm the corruption and declare the report of the journalists true. However, at the end of 2010, Xinhua News Agency only announced the dismissal of Liu Haimin, the former president of Qingdao Branch, and ordered Zhang Minhua, the former president of Shandong Branch, to make a profound inspection, without handing over the corrupt elements and suspects to justice, under the cover of some individuals.
In the context of the strong central anti-corruption and the central supervision team and central inspection team stationed in Xinhua News Agency, on August 2, 2013, Xinhua News Agency held a coordination meeting and decided to resume work on Feng Jie and Qi Li. However, after the meeting, some people were subversive, and eventually only one of the whistleblowers, Feng Jie, was reinstated as a reporter by Xinhua News Agency, and Qi Li is still suffering from the injustice.
The perennial wrongful conviction has left Qi Li in pain. In her letter, she sobbed and complained about the tragic fate caused by her unjust imprisonment: during her illegal detention, she was deprived of her freedom of life, and her right to life, personality, and reputation were trampled on, and her basic human rights were not guaranteed. Long-term malnutrition, severe anemia, resulting in thin bones, flattened blood vessels, repeated fainting, resuscitation needle can not be inserted into the blood vessels ……
Years of fear, anger, depression, anxiety and the pressure of life without sources have left Qi Li and his family severely physically and mentally devastated, and Qi Li, his younger brother and sister have successively developed cancer, leaving the family in a near desperate situation. After ten years of severe malnutrition and extreme anemia, Qi Li’s hemoglobin was less than 2 grams, and his life was in danger.
Finally killed and died, the corrupt elements were harbored
During the period, Feng Jie repeatedly appealed to Xinhua News Agency to resume Qi Li’s work as soon as possible in accordance with the decision of the Coordination Committee, to help, Qi Li also repeatedly held a sick letter, Qi Li’s family also repeatedly petitioned to find the leadership of the Agency, but Xinhua News Agency ignored and shirked their responsibilities.
The cruel torture of the unjust prison and Xinhua’s callous indifference brought Qi Li and his family a fatal blow, and in March 2014, the frightened old mother of Qi Li unfortunately died. After more than a year, Qi Li, who had suffered a lot, also passed away.
Qi Li, who should have resumed work with Feng Jie at the same Time, was artificially shelved under the influence of individuals at Xinhua News Agency, and this shelving led to the two worlds of yin and yang, which turned out to be the eternal goodbye of female journalist Qi Li and the world.
Qi Li’s family said sadly: “The Xinhua News Agency is not the rule of law, not justice, framing good people, see the death, where is the justice of God”.
The reporter contacted another whistleblower, lawyer Feng Jie said: the national constitution and laws clearly stipulate that “no organization or individual shall illegally operate land”, but the Xinhua News Agency individual officials in Qingdao, Jinan and other places to illegally operate the sale of a number of land, involving 422 acres, the value of the case up to several billion yuan. Some people in Xinhua News Agency openly harbor corruption and give a wide berth to corrupt people, but they are cruelly persecuted and ruthlessly cracked down on anti-corruption whistleblowers. The persecution of judicial means exhausted, and the long-term use of administrative means such as dragging time, pushing the ball, looking for problems, inaction, soft knife to kill, Qi Li and her mother paid the price of life for this, a painful lesson.
Feng Jie’s side alleged that the land corruption case they reported, whether from the amount involved, or from the level of the senior officials involved, as well as the anti-corruption whistleblowers to create unjust prison “kill to silence”, harboring corrupt people at large, the nature of the case involved, has become the most serious series of corruption cases in the history of Xinhua News Agency for more than 80 years.
Qi Li’s family firmly believes that the corrupt elements and the criminals who created the murder and harbored the corruption will be liquidated by the people sooner or later to console the souls of the anti-corruption heroes who died unjustly.
