13 Canadian MPs, including Kwan Wai-ching, urge to find another host for the Winter Olympics

The IOC is now in the process of withdrawing the right to host the 2022 Winter Olympics and finding another city to take its place.

The IOC has been working on a project to develop a new city to host the Olympic Games.

The letter was initiated by Alexis Brunelle-Duceppe, a member of the Quebecois political group, and was signed by 13 members of parliament from the party, the federal Liberal Party, the Conservative Party, the New Democratic Party and the Green Party, including Jenny Kwan, a Chinese member of parliament. In addition, Jean-Luc Brassard, the country’s Olympic Gold medalist in skiing, and representatives of the Jewish community and Aboriginal groups also participated.

Former Canadian Ambassador to China David Mulroney, former Canadian Consul General in Hong Kong John Higginbotham and federal Conservative foreign affairs commentator Michael Chong are among those calling for a boycott of the 2022 Winter Olympics, while Canadian Olympic Committee President David Shoemaker has expressed support. David Shoemaker, president of the Canadian Olympic Committee, opposed the boycott, arguing that it would not achieve the desired results, would be unfair to the athletes and might even hinder efforts to secure the early release of former Chinese diplomat Michael Kovrig and businessman Michael Spavor, who are being detained by China.

Kwan, born in Hong Kong in 1967, immigrated to Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, with her Family when she was 9 years old and speaks fluent Cantonese and English. She went to Simon Fraser University and majored in criminology. After graduating from the university in 1990, she worked for a law firm for a Time and then for the Downtown Vancouver East End Residents Association from 1991.

After divorcing, she and her children moved to the Kitsilano area of Vancouver West in 2013.
