Northeast man with knife scissors on the train was detained for 5 days, netizens asked why?

A Heilongjiang man was sentenced by Beijing police to five days of administrative detention for wanting to carry scissors, hammers and other tools on the train. Netizens questioned: “And did not take it to do bad things, why detention? It is obvious that this is a crime of thought.”

On Feb. 5, the man surnamed Yang was searched by security personnel at Beijing Station for 22 knives, 10 scissors and a hammer, a total of 33 tools, from his luggage, according to land media reports.

One of the single-edged knives was 20 centimeters long, with a 13-centimeter handle and a tip angle of less than 60 degrees, and was deemed a “control knife” by police.

Yang said that the items carried in the luggage were saved in his work and he was going to take them back Home to send them to others.

He was administratively detained by the Beijing Railway Police for 5 days, the fifth passenger punished by the Beijing Railway Police for carrying “control instruments” since the “Spring Festival”.

The man, surnamed Yang, will hardly be able to return home in Time to have a New Year’s Eve dinner with his Family.

The microblogging account “Wang Cailiang lawyer” posted: “I think this matter is not handled properly. In fact, it is only necessary to give a verbal warning and let him take it back and mail it home, or save it at the station to collect it when he returns to Beijing.”

Netizens angrily criticized the authorities.

“What are you afraid of? Is this a murder weapon? The grass is always greener, no wonder the kitchen knives at home in a certain place are engraved with ID numbers plus chains.”

“The picture shows the controlled knives, some are kitchen knives and scissors, some ordinary shears, such products in Guangdong Yangjiang countless, then first shut down the production companies.”

“In the future, the provisions of who re-entered the capital to break off all the teeth! Otherwise the bite can hurt!”

Some netizens also said that the authorities have been doing this straw man approach for years.

“The train, subway and airplane are heavily screened, and all are subject to the same security checks, even the kitchen graters have to be seized, and hair scissors are not allowed to be brought (not even for check-in).”

“In the 19th Congress, I went on a train through security and had my small scissors for trimming nose hairs confiscated.”

Authorities ordered back in 2016 that passengers be banned from bringing kitchen knives, fruit knives and even table knives onto trains, and required that the number of safety matches they could carry be reduced from 20 boxes to two, and ordinary gas lighters from five to two.

Some people sarcastically said: “Now there are more and more controls, the people have less and less free space, the Kuomintang era has not reached this point, right? Are you afraid of the ordinary people with guns and cannons? Now the purchase of matches, lighters, kitchen knives, gas cans, Internet access, cell phones all have to be real-name …… Why no officials property disclosure real-name system?”
